2008 Hip Hop Honors Predictions
UPDATE:
The 2008 Honorees have been announced. They are: Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Naughty By Nature, Slick Rick and Too $hort. What do you think?
The 2008 VH1 Hip Hop Honors will take place on October 2nd in New York City. Ever since last year's show, people have been speculating about who should be inducted this year (traditionally, there have been anywhere between four and seven performers inducted each year). It makes it difficult to predict, given there is no stated criteria for induction.
Here are our predictions:
- Doug E. Fresh wrong!
- Dr. Dre wrong!
- De La Soul correct!
- Slick Rick correct!
- Queen Latifah wrong!
- Jay-Z wrong!

I also think the Roxanne Roxanne battles should be recognized.I also forgot about the Cold Crush Brothers and Heavy D and the Boys.

Kurtis Blow: 1st 'cool' MC to have a major record deal. Just do it..just do it.. do it.. do it!
Fat Boys: the first overweight MC's who paved the way for other large rappers. RIP Buff aka Human Beat Box.
Beastie Boys: got to give these cats their props; they hung in there thru the beginings of DEF JAM. paved the way for other white rappers, License to ILL is a classic
Queen Latifah: next to MC Lyte, one of the tightest females lyricaly.
TOO Short: 1st West Coast MC to bring that pimpin and mackin in the game back in the late-eighties...Biiiitch!!!
OutCast: it's time for New York to let some country boys up in here. Dre and Big Boi help put the Dirty on the map. Back at the Hip Hop Source awards (1994)Dre said 'the south got something to say', well, they did.
Krush Groove: this Hip Hop movie gave Blair Underwood his start and showed a young LL do his thing despite almost gettin a beat down...lol..remember that scence?

For Artists
Gang Starr - Premier is the greatest hip hop producer of all time, stuck with Guru from 1989 till now, 6 albums, Guru does his thing on all the albums, they need to be inducted already!
Slick Rick - can't believe he hasn't been honored yet.
Doug E Fresh - they could do him with slick rick(no homo), since he is the world's greatest entertainer.
Outkast - One of the best rap groups of all time. They probably won't honor them, but they have contributed to hip hop throughout the years, and if Missy Elliot got in last year, than I don't see why they can't get in.
De La Soul - Come on, this one should have been done already.
Kool G Rap - One of the greatest rappers, classics with Dj Polo, he should definetely be on here.
Kool Moe Dee - It's Kool Moe Dee, he definetely needs to be honored.
And for the non hip hop artists,
Sampling - What hip hop was created out of.

Next year they need to induct: The Juice Crew (Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, Biz Markie, Marley Marl, Craig G, etc..) or at least some more members of the crew; EPMD; Nas; Jay-Z; Queen Latifah; Dr. Dre; the movie "Style Wars"; and most importantly, Dj Premier and/or Gangstarr.

there must be a criteria now. it is very disrespectful hip hop it self not to have one and just wing it. it's not done in this way with with anything that has a hall or fame. you may call it honors. but its the hall of fame. you'll started out being disrespectful so it must stop now. let me give you some examples: Rakim without Eric B, Eazy E. without N.W.A. or before them and Dr. Dre. missy before Queen. Cypress Hill period. No EPMD but De La Soul. Need i say more. well let me just side note. there is a difference between Hip Hop and Rap. but when it comes to the Honors/Hall of Fame. they must be linked together. i disagree that everyone from 1980-1995 should get in. i understand they are the prime years but all because you played the game and got on the field don't make you a hall of famer. we should take a page from Rock and Rolls criteria and modify it to hip hop. mainly there 25yr waiting list. does one hot song get you in. if soo. Rob Base it takes 2 was bigger and ran longer on the air waves longer than naughty by natures OPP. thats why i think they should not be in. well just not yet. but i would like to say. thanks for the show. its been 5yrs. its time or improvement. At the rate you're going. everyone that made a record would be in the hall of fame.

in my opinion I love Hip Hop of all time I think that EPMD, Cold crush Brothers, Fab 5 Freddy,, Kurtis BLow , Gang Starr, Outkast and UTFO should be in the hip hop honors next year because they should and worked hard making it the game they influenced me to listen to their songs
Posted by byron on Sunday, 10.12.08 @ 17:45pm
next year's should include EPMD, N.W.A., Kool G. Rap, Gang Starr, and the most underrated emcee in my opinion, P-Dawg.. Paris!!! Guerilla Funk all the way. Can VH1 handle a hard truth soldier???!!!

I got major beef with the way this list looks'. For the simple fact. The Beastie Boys, Nas, and KRS-ONE not being in the top 10 is insane. The fact that NWA is not ahead of Wu-Tang is absurd. I love the Wu. But if wasn't for NWA, Public Enemy, Run Dmc, and The Beastie Boys'. No Wu. Dre cannot hold his own weight on an album without a prodigy like Snoop or Eminem. That is the reason why his two Chronic albums' even sold half as much as they did. Whoever compiled this list does not know a boombox from a beatbox.
